I’m participating in the 2022 Women Build because I believe in the work of the Fox Valley Habitat affiliate. I believe in helping individuals and families achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter!
My story: I was raised by my mother in a single parent household. My mom often worked two jobs to support us. She never relied on public assistance, and never received child support or any form of alimony. We did rely on relatives and friends at times, and we were very grateful.
We moved every 2-3 years, from one apartment to the next during my childhood.
My mom was finally given the opportunity to purchase a townhome around 1980, through a private loan. A very generous longtime friend gave my mother a loan for a down payment. It allowed me to stay in one school for the duration of high school.
Becoming a homeowner helped my mother build financial equity, which would later help her attend college. She graduated from Haper College, UIC and lastly, Aurora University with a Master's in Social Work.
Please prayerfully consider supporting me in the 2022 Women Build Project. It will be my first build and I am doing this in honor of my mother and her 75th birthday.
Thank you,
Kelly Jordan Licht
