What is Women Build?

DuPage Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s invite women to build alongside future homeowners during the 11th annual National Women Build Week, May 5 through 12. DuPage Habitat for Humanity is one of 300 Habitat organizations nationwide hosting Women Build projects during the week with support from Lowe’s, a longtime partner in the event. During the week-long build, local community members will lend their time and talents, building walls in Wheaton that will be used on our project sites throughout DuPage County.

National Women Build Week brings together women to devote at least one day to building decent and affordable housing in their local communities. Nearly 100,000 women from all 50 states have volunteered in previous years. DuPage Habitat for Humanity’s 2018 Spring Women Build is an opportunity for women to come together and build homes, communities and hope for families in need! The mission of Women Build is simple - to recruit, educate and nurture women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable housing in their communities. Volunteers of every skill level are welcome. We will teach, support and train all participants on the build site!

We will be building walls at the Fox Valley ReStore, located at 4100 Fox Valley Center Rd., Aurora, IL,  that will be used on our project sites throughout DuPage County.

Community Builders will begin at 9:00 AM and complete their projects around 3:30 PM on May 5  and May 12. Corporate Builders will start their workday at the traditional time of 7:30 AM and end around 3:30 PM on May 8 – 11 build dates. All tools, safety gear and training will be provided on site. Get excited to give back with a group of energetic women! Read our 208 Spring Women Build

Why Support?

According to the US Census, more than 40% of women who head families are now living in poverty. Habitat breaks the cycle of poverty by creating direct access to affordable homes. For 20 years, DuPage Habitat for Humanity has been serving families looking for a “hand up” to make the dream of homeownership a reality.
