Community Service Information

Please read thoroughly, as this page contains information essential to successful completion of your service hours with Habitat for Humanity Lake County.



  • Register:You must provide HFHLC office with a copy of your community service order.  
    If you do not have a copy of your court order please obtain one from the Clerk of Courts Office or we will accept a letter from your attorney detailing the hours required, deadline, court or other ordering party and reason for the hours.
    For school service hours we need your school name, class, teacher/advisor name and number of hours required. HFHLC has a 4 hour minimum.
  • Pick up a Blue Sheet or request an “Authorized Time Sheet” via e-mail from
  • Schedule Hours: make your own arrangements by phone (847-623-1020 ext.115), e-mail or in person at the Habitat office, 315 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Waukegan, IL 60085.
  • Minimum Age: You must be 16 or older to work in the ReStore; 18 or older for construction.


  • HFHLC will determine the location of your service hours (ReStore or Construction Site)
  • No one doing community service for retail theft will be assigned hours at our ReStore
  • Once scheduled you must call to cancel if you cannot make your hours
  • No call/No show or 2 consecutive cancellations of scheduled hours and you will be asked to complete your hours elsewhere


  • Complete on line safety training course “Volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity Job Site”.
  • ReStore: Minimum 4 hours per day. Tuesday Noon - 6PM, Wednesday - Friday: 9AM - 6PM Saturday: 8:30AM-5:00PM. **All Saturday volunteers start at 8:30am**


  • Bring the time sheet provided with you each time you work.
  • Have a Habitat representative who knows when you worked sign off each work day.
  • When hours complete, bring the blue time sheet(s) to our office for verification & signature.

Confirmation of hours will be based solely on our signed & authorized time sheet.  Sorry No Exceptions

If following our procedures is a problem, please consider an alternate work place.
