The next three years at DuPage Habitat for Humanity promise to be an exhilarating and thrilling journey. It is our goal to serve more families in the next three years than we have served since our founding in 1995. Thus far we have served 91 families, and in the next three years alone we will serve an additional 80 families. But we can only do that with your continued support. This month we proudly launch our new campaign: Creating Hope, Achieving Dreams, and Securing the Future. This campaign will get us one step closer to accomplishing our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. This new initiative will include the completion of Prairie Green, the return to West Chicago to finish the Pioneer Prairie development, as well as a new, intense focus on our Faith relationships.
In 2011, DuPage Habitat completed the Pioneering Affordable Homeownership campaign, an initiative to build 11 new and seven rehabbed homes over a three year period (2009-2011), for a total of 18 homes. At the heart of this campaign was Habitat’s 11-home sustainable neighborhood in West Chicago, called Pioneer Prairie. All 11 homes have been built to a minimum of Energy Star certification, and one home achieved LEED certification. In addition, Habitat completed eight rehabbed homes during this period – which exceeded our goal! The majority of the rehabs were foreclosed homes, rehabbed in partnership with DuPage County under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
