Pederson-Wilson Family Story

Susan Pederson-Wilson is a teacher’s aide for a special needs school, and a single mother of two children. Sue also is a hard worker and a dedicated mom. Nearly a decade ago, Sue left a troubled marriage, filed for bankruptcy and moved from Colorado to her home state of Illinois to seek stability in her life. Sue knew that she would have to work hard to get her life back on the track she wanted for her children.

With funding from Thrivent Financial, and support from Lutheran congregations and other volunteer teams, DuPage Habitat for Humanity bought and renovated a small home in Addison. Today, Sue owns that home and pays Dupage Habitat for Humanity a no-interest mortgage that she can afford. She is able to walk to work and kids are able to walk to school. Her kids love their new home (“the cutest little house in Addison“). Sue is back on track.

Sue says, “Those who helped me and my family take the steps to buying our home were the hands and feet of God. They gave my family the roots needed to give us wings.”
