  • ReStore Cashier - Habitat for Humanity Lake County, IL

    Job Description: ReStore Cashier

    You’ll be the primary check-out staff for customers and make sure that customers have a pleasant and efficient experience and encourage repeat customers. Your communication skills, enthusiasm and passion for the organization are equal in importance to cashier role. You will continually promote Habitat’ housebuilding mission and the ReStore to develop excellent relationships. You’ll keep the cashier area and front portion of ReStore neat, organized and friendly.

    Cashier
    Staff cash register at all times Accurately ring purchases using proper codes, handle money, checks, credit cards accurately and honestly Follow approved procedures for errors, special needs, start up and end of shift processes Thank every visitor and customer every time Maintain professional appearance at the register area with counters clear and bulletin boards uncluttered

     

    Welcome Area Welcome visitors to the ReStore verbally and with eye contact Monitor who is in store and communicate suspicious behavior to staff or volunteers to obtain assistance Maintain HFH info area with brochures, flyers, etc. and offers information on HFH events and initiatives Invites all customers to sign up with email address/phone for E-ReStore, coupons, loyalty card, etc.

    Document Management Ensure forms (agreement to pick-up merchandise, volunteer waiver, sign-in sheet) are properly filled out and filed File and organize additional documents as requested when no customers are at check out area

    Customer Service Answer customer questions politely and connect customers and visitors to appropriate staff and volunteers who may be able to best assist the customer

    Additional duties Answer phone or make ReStore-related calls Assist customers in front area, when not ringing up other customers Price small items and complete additional jobs as requested by staff

    Minimum Requirements Experience in cash register and credit card machine operation Ability to handle money and complete basic computation including sales tax Excellent verbal communication skills and friendly customer service skills Ability to read forms, alphabetize for filing, complete light documentation (file receipts, make lists) Experience in organizing information, projects and systems with diverse groups of people Knowledge of building materials and household products and equipment a plus Spanish language a plus

    Working Conditions

    Must be able to lift 25 lbs and to twist and ability to stand for 8 hours

    Reports to: ReStore Manager

    Supports: ReStore Volunteers

    Works with: ReStore Staff, Affiliate Staff

    Hours: Part-time Variable 20-25 hours per week, Tuesday Saturday, occasional meetings/events other times

    Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry which builds strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Habitat serves families by building, rehabilitating and repairing homes with low-income families. Habitat is not a give-away program. Partner Families purchase their houses at no profit with no-interest mortgages. In addition they invest 500 hours of their own labor on the construction of their home and in an intense education program focused on financial literacy and home and yard maintenance. Since 1989 Habitat for Humanity Lake County has served over 200 families with 1,000 individuals - through affordable housing solutions.

    The Habitat ReStore is a retail warehouse that accepts donations of cabinets, appliances, furniture, building materials and some household goods. We sell these items to the public to support our building program.
