Since our ReStores ReOpened back in May, we have received an influx of questions about the donation process and how donors can help support Habitat for Humanity. To help spread the word, we decided to interview Justin Lucas, DuPage Habitat’s ReStore Corporate Relationships Manager.

Justin oversees the procurement of donations from corporations with excess furniture, tools and product. Justin provides key insight into the donation process, how it works, and different ways YOU can donate.

Q: Who donates to the Habitat ReStore?

A: Our primary donors are retailers, remodelers, distributors, and homeowners.

Q: Why should people donate?

A: We live in a throw-away culture where far too many usable items end up in a landfill when our neighbors can use them. Donating to the ReStore is good for both the environment and our community.

Q: What does Habitat for Humanity do with the money it makes at the ReStore?

A: Habitat uses the proceeds from the ReStore to help families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. ReStore proceeds help families build their own home alongside Habitat volunteers in your community and locations around the world like our tithing partners in the Dominican Republic.

Q: Why should my business donate?

A: Businesses donate for a variety of reasons.  Some businesses donate to clear out unwanted inventory from their warehouse. Some like the tax reduction. Overall, donating to the ReStore supports the community in which your business operates. And more than ever, customers want to do business with companies that give back.

Q: What, where and how can I donate to the Habitat ReStore?

A: Popular donations include flooring, lighting, appliances, and furniture and we accept donations at all three ReStores. To see a list of what we can and cannot accept as well as donation drop-off hours, visit our website DuPageReStore.com/donate for our Addison and Aurora stores and GoHabitatReStore.com for our Chicago Heights store.

Q: Can Habitat come pick up my donations?

A: Yes. We have a free donation pickup service for larger items that won’t fit in your car. You can visit our website to request a pickup.

Q: What kinds of corporate donations are most popular?

A: Our most in-demand products are flooring, cabinets, and appliances. Lighting are hardware are also very popular with our customers.

Q: Are there tax exemptions for corporate donors?

A: As a registered 501(c)3, donations to the ReStore are tax-deductible to the fair market value of the items.

Q: Whom should I contact to make a corporate donation?

A: To request a free donation pickup, contact Justin Lucas, the ReStore Corporate Relationships Manager, at either (630) 517-2080 ext. 402 or at jlucas@gohabitat.org.

Q: Where are the Restores located?

A: Addison: 869 S Rohlwing Rd. ¼ mile north of Rt. 53 and North Ave.

Aurora: 4100 Fox Valley Center. Next to the Kohl’s at Fox Valley Mall.

Chicago Heights: 180 W Joe Orr Rd.

Q: How else can my organization get involved at Habitat?

A: Volunteers play a vital role in our ReStores. They build furniture, fix lighting, and help customers on the sales floor. There’s a place for everyone at the ReStore!

Corporate donations are crucial to our work at Habitat for Humanity. The ReStore would not be able to survive without the help of fellow businesses and organizations in our community. The ReStore supports partnerships with Habitat families that build or improve a place they can call home. When you donate, shop, or volunteer at the ReStore, you are supporting Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

For corporate donations, you can contact Justin directly at (630) 517-2080 ext. 402 or email him at jlucas@gohabitat.org. For additional information about ReStore donations, or to schedule a residential pickup, visit DuPageReStore.com/donate/.
