Melekhovas to Celebrate Home Dedication

Kate Melekhova has been in the Chicago area for 7 years, and although she has been through many hardships, she has become even stronger and more determined to provide for her family. She began her journey with Bridge Communities two years ago, with her two sons Leo and Mishka, and her parents. Kate has excelled in the Bridge Program, finding full-time employment within a few months, taking English classes with Literacy DuPage, and becoming a confident public speaker to share her story about homelessness and domestic abuse. Although Kate’s parents have now returned to Russia, she has built a strong support system with the Naperville Rotary and New Covenant Church in Naperville.

During her time as a future homeowner, Kate has seen the results of hard work, and has cherished the teambuilding experience of working together with volunteers on the construction sites. She knows that the opportunity of an affordable mortgage with DuPage Habitat will carry her far when planning for her future family needs. Kate is looking forward to the warmth and stability that a house will provide for her family. “I have a place in my past that I can call my childhood home. It holds very precious memories that make me happy. I have been dreaming of a house that will one day be in the center of my boys memories marked as their ‘happy place’,” she said.

That dream will soon become a reality as we gather on August 3, 2018 for the Melekhova Family Home Dedication
