Matching Gifts from Employers
A note from Ron Kelso; Chairman of the Board at FVHH
Habitat for Humanity has an impeccable reputation and a life transforming mission statement of giving a hand-up for working lower-income families to own their own home. Without Habitat for Humanity many families would be life-long renters in substandard apartments. Because we provide zero percent interest and receive help from others and more, it makes what we do possible.
Please let us share a few easy ways you can help provide funding from your employer.
Idea 1: When an employee volunteers for Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity, many employers will donate a check to us to support what you are doing. Even after retirement, some companies will continue to pay Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity when you volunteer.
Idea 2: Another popular option even small company’s love is the Team Building Experience. With this, your company sends a group to work on our job site for a full or half day. Contact Chris Schindler, Executive Coordinator. His email is C.Schindler@foxvalleyhabitat.org. His direct phone number is 630-206-5032 to learn more.
Idea 3: Many companies will match employee gifts to Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity. That means that when you give a tax deductible gift of $500 for example and your employer matches that with another $500, the total gift becomes $1000. This is a 1:1 match. If you gave $500 and the company gives $1000, the gift would be $1,500 total. This is a 2:1 match. You have to ask your employer how their matching gift fund works. You must specify Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity if you want it to be used locally. If you choose Habitat for Humanity instead, it will be used internationally someplace else and we do not receive any of the money.
Here are a few examples of some companies with matching gifts available:
Aetna Boeing BP (British Petroleum)
CarMax Chevron ConocoPhillips
Dell ExxonMobil Gap Corporation
General Electric IBM Johnson & Johnson
Microsoft Pfizer PNM Resources
Real Networks Soros Fund Management Verizon

We are only able to positively impact so many lives when we have partners to help us. Please consider a way for your employer to become one of those partners. We also appreciate help from individual givers that believe in what we do.
You may not be able to change the world, but together we will change someone’s world.
