DuPage Habitat for Humanity Hosts Annual Builders' Breakfast

DuPage Habitat invited corporate partners and volunteers to Cantigny Park for a breakfast event.

On December 7, 2018, DuPage Habitat for Humanity hosted the annual Builders’ Breakfast at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. Corporate partners and volunteers were welcomed to Cantigny’s Red Oak Room to enjoy breakfast and an award presentation.

Executive Director Dave Neary filled the crowd in on DuPage Habitat’s plan to build up the county in the next year. These efforts include serving more families, breaking ground on 27 townhome units, and expanding collaboration with other Habitat affiliates in the Chicagoland region.

Current DuPage Habitat Homeowner Don Ford also spoke at the event, detailing the experience he and his wife have had owning a Habitat home, and the impact DuPage Habitat has in our area. They recently finished paying the mortgage on the home DuPage Habitat offered them over 20 years ago.

Three corporate partners and three individuals were honored with awards. The Leader Award is presented to an individual or organization who has been a champion of DuPage Habitat’s mission and hard-working families in need for one to five years. Roger Kim and Sherrie Albrecht received the individual’s Leader Award for donating their Wheaton Home this year. ACE Hardware received the corporate Leader Award for providing valuable volunteer hours and gifts in-kind to the ReStore.

The Legend Award is presented to an individual or organization who dedicated five to ten years of support to DuPage Habitat to help serve more families and build programs and support surrounding affordable housing in DuPage County. Michael Walsh received the individual’s Legend Award for being a long-time volunteer and donor. CNH Industrial received the corporate Legend Award for encouraging employees and interns to volunteer, making financial contributions, and providing large gifts in-kind.

The Dick and Florence Nogaj Legacy Award is presented to an individual who has dedicated ten or more years of exemplary service to DuPage Habitat and is honored for their generous donation of time, talents and support to help hard-working families in need. Kelly Bufton received the individual’s Legacy Award for his ongoing involvement at DuPage Habitat, including serving on the Board of Directors and encouraging employees from his company to get involved. Wintrust received the corporate Legacy Award for their ongoing partnership and commitment to fund $40,000,000 worth of below rate mortgages to DuPage Habitat Homeowners, working hand in hand with DuPage Habitat to develop underwriting criteria and safeguards for homeowners to enhance the mortgage products offered.
